Pea and Ham Soup

Cooking on a boat is a little bit different to cooking elsewhere as you are trying to do several things. Reduce the amount of water that you are using, reduce the amount of gas you are using and make your cooking last for longer periods of time. Our Pea and Ham soup is a good example of this in that you cook a ham, which alows you to cook the ham and make a stock, which you can use to and then use the we create Pea abd Ham Soup which will last you for two or three days.

Making the stock

Boil a ham for at least three hours in water containing Salt and Pepper and 1/2 onion. We use Mr D, our thermal cooker to boil the ham because once you have it boiling then you v=can leave the ham alone.

We left our ham for 5 hours because we were busy. We then cut off a large slice to make ham and chips for our evening meal.
